This preparatory sketch for Nya’s work “My Boathouse,” reveals four important meanings behind the words Jesus cried on the cross, “It is finished”

Historically, the phrase “It is finished” was used in the business world to signify the full payment of a debt. When a debt had been fully paid off, the parchment on which the debt was recorded was stamped with the word “Tetelatsai,” translated “It is finished.”

In essence, when Jesus uttered those words, “It is finished,” it was the equivalent of His declaration that the debt humanity owed to sin was fully satisfied, fulfilled and complete.

The print was produced on the occasion of “Foundation of Conviction,” a book that discusses the x-rays, drawings and sketches of three important works from Nya’s “Divine Inspiration” series, namely, “Tablet of Prosperity,” “My Boathouse” and “Yonder of Eternal Excellency.”
